FMB defend BAM Championship at 2018 Sports Day

First Merchant Bank (FMB) were crowned champions of the Bankers Association of Malawi (Bam) Sports Day for the third consecutive year at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre on Saturday.

The event attracted bankers from different banks in the country who competed in various sporting disciplines.

FMB emerged champions in volleyball and football before being crowned overall winners.

The bank’s Head of Human Resources and Administration, Nargis Khan, said the win is a compliment to their commitment towards the development of sports in the country.

“We are not a new name in the development of sports in Malawi. For 10 years now, we have been sponsoring the Under 20 Youth Football League. But this starts from our house where we encourage our staff to participate in different sporting activities. As a bank, we sponsor our staff during such social games and it is not surprising to see that we have managed to retain the championship,” Khan said.

Bam Chief Executive Officer, Violet Santhe, said the association is delighted to have hosted a successful event for the third year running.

“The purpose of the event is to socialise, share ideas and relax after long hours of work. We are happy to note that since its introduction, the event has attracted great support from banks in the country. We congratulate all the winners and we are looking forward to another successful event next year,” Santhe said.

In other categories, NBS Bank were crowned champions in netball, while FDH bank won the basketball competition.

Outstanding individuals in particular games were also recognised.
